Our weaning chicks are gradually introduced to a varied, well-balanced diet to support healthy growth, development, and an easy transition to their new homes. Their daily diet includes high-quality Roudybush pellets, a rotation of fresh vegetables like broccoli, carrots, and bell peppers, as well as a limited portion of seeds, nuts, and fruit. This approach encourages natural foraging behaviors, reduces food pickiness, and helps establish strong nutritional habits from a young age. We focus on fostering not just social, well-adjusted chicks, but also ones with a solid nutritional foundation for lifelong health. We believe in providing early dietary variety to promote curiosity, enrichment, and digestive wellness. If you have a preferred brand of pellets you’d like your baby to be weaned onto, please let us know in advance. We're happy to accommodate your preferences to ensure a smooth, familiar dietary transition that supports both the bird's well-being and your peace of mind.
We believe that allowing young birds to fully fledge and develop their flight skills is critical for building lifelong confidence, coordination, and physical health. Flight is not only a natural behavior but also a vital form of exercise and mental stimulation, especially during the early stages of development. In our aviary, all chicks—along with their parents—are kept fully flighted throughout the weaning and socialization process. This allows them to strengthen their flight muscles, practice spatial awareness, and explore their environment safely and at their own pace. While the decision to clip or keep your bird flighted is entirely a personal one and should be made with careful consideration of your lifestyle and home environment, we encourage fledging as part of a holistic approach to avian well-being. If you choose to clip later, your bird will still benefit greatly from having had the opportunity to learn and master flight during its most critical developmental window.
Our chicks are raised in a stimulating and socially rich environment designed to support both their emotional development and species awareness. As they grow, we provide a wide variety of age-appropriate toys to encourage curiosity, coordination, and independent play. Enrichment items are rotated regularly to maintain engagement and support mental stimulation. In addition to solo activities, our chicks participate in group playtime with their clutchmates and, when appropriate, supervised interactions with older, well-socialized birds. These experiences help teach important social skills, communication cues, and boundaries, all while reinforcing their identity as birds. At the same time, we spend daily one-on-one time with each chick to build trust and familiarity with humans. Our goal is to raise confident, balanced birds that understand their place within a flock while also enjoying the companionship of their human families.
